Hunter’s Rocks

Michael Fitzgerald on VerbingHunter’s Rocks is a beautiful sandstone bouldering area that’s located at the southwestern tip of Rothrock State Forest, about 25 miles south of State College, PA.

A significant portion of Hunter’s Rocks is on private property, and is clearly marked with “No Trespassing” signs. The landowner does not hesitate to escort climbers off of the property. Please don’t go into these areas.

img_7454_thumb.JPGIn April 2008, C3PA teamed up with the Standing Stone Trail Club to create a new approach trail to Hunter’s Rocks. This new trail is properly graded for hiking and erosion, and avoids private property. Here is a really rough sketch of the end of Frew Rd and the parking options. Make sure that you’re parked completely off the road. If there isn’t room at the small pullout across from the group camp site, please park at the circle at the end of the road.

Again, please respect the private property at Hunter’s Rocks. This is one of the best bouldering areas in the region, and trespassing makes it much more difficult to negotiate access in the future.
