Finally, a long-overdue recap of a really great day at Donation Rocks! Despite some sub-par weather, we had a solid turnout at the first-ever Donation Rocks Adopt-A-Crag Event. Over 50 folks were on hand to help with trail-building, tree-felling, brush removal, and the extremely satisfying removal of the No Trespassing and No Rock Climbing signs that have guarded the rocks for the last five years. Highlights included the heroic arrival of former (so he thinks) C3PA board member Tom Mrotek and his crew of dirty hippies who cycled from State College to Donation Rocks with climbing gear, work gear, and some heavy-looking lunch items (which were partly devoured by an ill-behaved climber’s dog who shall remain unnamed), a sunset toprope session on some Donation classics just as the sun finally emerged from the clouds, and the consumption of large quantities of delicious food and tasty beers compliments of the unparalleled hospitality of the Millars, who not only purchased and opened the rocks to the climbing public, but gave us FREE FOOD AND BEER. “Thank you” doesn’t even begin to cover it. . .

Which brings me to serious, heartfelt and tremendously thankful portion of this blog post. As climbers, as C3PA’ers, as folks who just like to be able to romp around in beautiful rocky areas, we are deeply grateful to Jud and Anne Millar for their generosity, vision, and uncommon commitment to the local climbing community. Jud and Anne have been incredibly enthusiastic and proactive about forging a positive relationship with local climbers. They have gone to great lengths to set the stage for a respectful, warm, collaborative relationship with the climbing community, and we owe them our heartfelt thanks and utmost respect for the land that they’ve been so willing to grant us the privilege of sharing.
